When will we see more episodes? I'm a bit confused; there's information about 1 h of material, but I have received only one e-mail with a link to a video.

I'm this impatient, because these videos are so good. I'm only just starting to get to know Drupal, and this is a great way to learn. Thank you for doing and sharing this!

I signed up for the video course and received the email with a link for both courses. However, when I click on the link, nothing happens. I tried in both Safari 3.1.1 and Firefox 2.0.0.14. When it happened with video one, I thought that I signed up too late to receive the video - I presumed that the email with the link was an automatic response, but perhaps the video was taken off line. But today I received an email for the second video and the link takes me to a blank page. Any suggestions?

Hi, thanks for the interesting screencasts.

I remember I read about a simple trick to redirect the default mydomain.com/node to mydomain.com, but I can't find it anymore. I could do .htaccess redirect, but is that the best option?

Why can't Drupal just use '/' as the frontpage? There are some threads on this for 4.7 but why is it still present in D6? see http://drupal.org/node/77481.

The Global redirect module can do this. Try it out with our domain.

I've seen the first 12 minutes — very easy and clear interpretation, I'm waiting for the second part.... Waiting and waiting....

Watched the Video #1. This is very great and neat service for a free site.

Good job . Keep it up

Anand

A real top notch way to get things going on Drupal for SEO AND a great way to learn more about how Drupal functions. Easy to understand! A great resource to refer back to.

Hi!
Please help! I have a client who needs video on their site. My company built the site i n Drupal however my boss is telling me that i need to install the video modules. Please understadn im a sales person and by far a technical person. Can you please assist or share some step by stpes for a novice like my self. I have created the title pages, added content, blog, blog rolls and understand a tiny bit about nods.

sg

In the first module you say that you are hosting the site locally but you have tricked it into displaying www.example.com in the addtess window. Can you please tell me how I can do that?
Thanks so much,
Bruce Kersten

Sure - this is provided via the hosts file. On windows it's something like

c:\WINDOWS\drivers\etc\hosts

You often have to wait a while for networking to realize the change before it starts working properly. More details at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_file

My Drupal articles

I'm really enjoying the screen casts. I feel more confident with every viewing in what i can do with Drupal. I go back and re-watch a lot too. Thanks!

Having read people's opinion on this video I'm toying with the idea of signing-up and having a look. I do a fair bit of web design and coding (primarily raw xhtml/css but a little php) so it's always interesting to see other people's opinion on page optimisation and techniques to boost SERPs. Only issue I have is that I refuse to sign-up to spam lists and I can't make up my mind if I think this is indeed a spam list or if it's a genuine method of reaching likeminded people and informing them of new features and vids... ;)

*tosses a coin*

This is a permission based list, you can unsubscribe at any time. We use Aweber which is a leading autoresponder service. If we would spam people then Aweber would shut us down.

Thanks for making these tutorials so easy to access - please keep me posted on any updates.

John.

Also Greg, the opening music is really soothing, it put me in a great mood for learning.
Your stuff really hits the nail on the head. Thanks for the great work you are doing for the Drupal Community.

The Tutorials have been great, I have learned more about Drupal by watching them than I did in a year of playing around with it in my spare time. Keep up the great work.

Thanks!!!

Is this post for real, or is it to catch peoples emails for fun. Where is this video??? looks like it was created some time ago, but the link to it eludes me?

Hi,

you can watch the videos free, just subscribe to our mailing list. You can unsubscribe at any time, this is an Aweber list. Aweber is a famous and trusted autoresponder service, their Alexa rank is 700. They have more visitors than Drupal.org.

The videos are still up to date, they show the best Drupal SEO tactics.

Just a note on the video (Drupal SEO course #1).... When I click on the link via email and Firefox (or a Firefox tab) opens, then the video loading script sometimes does not load. Don't know if any others are having this problem but this happened twice for me, both after clearing cache, etc.

Thanks
Brian @ SocialSEO.com

great job, really helped me a lot.

I've just watched video 2 and would like to say its so nice to see that the masters of this are human too! I think I'll have to watch it again though to get a proper idea of what's being done there.

So far these have been really helpful. Your explanations are so clear and simple (except when it goes wrong for you!) and just watching these has expanded my understanding of how things work in Drupal. Up to now I've just been doing what i've been told without really understanding what some of the modules do, so this is not only expanding my knowledge of SEO in Drupal, but how Drupal works in general!

Look forwad to the next one.

Esther

Hi

Good stuff, thanks for all the info !

Hi there

Great SEO-video. Thanks a lot. But I don't get it .... I received an email with a link to ONE videocast. The cast lasted 12 minutes. Where are the other SEO-videos?

Regards

Hi,

you will receive them soon, just be patient! Implement the things you learned in the first screencast!

Fantastic, thanks for the course. Always looking for a free handout :-)

Alwayzer

these kind of free information helps drupal adoption big time.

Just wanted to say thanks for the tutorial! I was borderline on giving up on Drupal, but your tips have helped! Thanks again!

this course is really helpful in learning how to form seo with drupal 6
one should always keep this in mind
i used it myself

hELLO - What format are these videos, please? (Flash, MPeG4, etc?) Thanks

They are in Flash, which is the most popular video format.

If you want to download the screencast use the Flash Video Grabber (Search it in Google) and install it and run it and when you run the link of the seo screencast it automatically grab the video and start to download it.

To play the Videos simply use the VLC Player.

Good to know that there is hope for as per Drupal. Yes. I am a new ignoramous user of Drupal that does not have any knowledge of it. Sincerely I have not checked the video sent to me - dont know how explanatory it is gonna be . But I just want you to know my status as per web designing. Actually, I want to have indepth knowledge of it.

Please, how do I go about it.?

Regards.

Viktor Stan

How I can see this video? I'm subscribe with my email and first name.

And did you receive a confirmation email? You have to confirm your subscription. Please also check your spam folder.

If it doesn't work and then please try agian subscribing, or try a different email address.

Hi drupaler folks!

I watched the 1st video and really appreciated it! I knew everything except how to work with robots.txt.

The only thing I can't find is how to watch the second video and so on.

Thanks!

Hello Again Greg,
Is there away to keep pages out of the XML sitemap completely? For instance, I don't really need google indexing my privacy page or contact us page.

Thanks again, great set of videos!
Steve

Hello Greg,

I'm about to watch video 5 and I'm sure it is just as great as the others. I was hoping there would be more than just 5 however. I know you mentioned a course you planning to release in March, and I look forward to learning about the details of it. Hope it fits my budget!

I'm desperately looking for how to add nofollow tags selectively to links in my site, and posted in the drupal groups forum that you started, adding nofollow on "unimportant pages".

In that discussion you mention that this can be done at the theme level, but I haven't yet figured out how to do that.

Anyways, thanks again, you videos have been extremely helpful!
Steve

Hey SEO folks!

At first I would like to thank you for your SEO videos! It is very good to see how to do that with Drupal.

I'm currently setting up a new Drupal-prowered site and I really want to implement all applicable SEO features. The site is about a hymn, and the lyrics will be shown in several languages. For comparison the original lyrics are shown together with each translation. But repeating content is bad according to SEO. I do not have any idea except making a picture out of the original lyrics to show with each translation, and this way to hide repeated content. Maybe you SEO-gurus can help with some ideas?

Thanks again for all your SEO information on your website!

Martin.

heya drupal master...

i'm watching these videos and they are great....you are really helping me in my discovering of drupal cms...i am not a geek nor i know anything about php or html...but it all seems easy now...well ok, i've spent some months on creating sites.

Now, i really need every possible assistance in what i am doing...it's a community portal powered by drupa and i have a specifiv need for profiled user setting...so my question was...if i wait for the videos, will there be anything about profiles and users or i should kindly ask you to help me ;) Robert...

hey thanks for sharing good job keep it up

Hi

I m working on many sites. Most of the sites are showing results in google (UK) and Yahoo (UK) but no results are on msn (UK). I have added the Url in MSN ( uk ) using ( http://search.msn.co.uk/docs/submit.aspx ) but the urls are not getting indexed in the Search engine . It is showing the results when i click on ( web ) but not on when i click on ( pages from UK ). Mostly our clients are from UK so they wan to have results only for uk

Please hep me out

Thanks

Inder...........

Submitting your site is not enough. Gain incoming links to your site. When no one links to your site, search engines won't find you!

Hi
Thanx 4 ur reply

Yes i aggree with u that incomming links are important but if i m adding the urls in msn.co.uk how this is possible that single url is not added in search engine where as urls are added in google uk and yahoo uk
Can u tel me how to add the url in msn.co.uk. Plz refer some directories if its possible 4 u so that i can add the site in them to gain links

Thanks

Inder.................

I can tell you that submitting your site to x search engines is a waste of time. Why? Because if you have enough incoming links, then all the major search robots will find you. Otherwise it is useless to submit your URL. So I suggest not to waste your time.

Instead create interesting and unique content frequently, and people will link to your site, and search engines will love you.

Hello ;)
First thx for this videos there are great and explain really good. By the second video i must laughing not only beginners are sometimes confused :-)

which modues will i take for drupal 6

Thx for your great work, go on, we all have very much fun and learn. ;)
greets Jürgen

Maybe one of the best module for SEO on Drupal is SEO CheckList ( http://drupal.org/project/seo_checklist ).
This isn't a real module but is a checklist of SEO module and action that you need ( or you might ^^ ) to download and do to impove you ranking and visibility for your site on search engine ^^
Take a look.

Sorry i don't appreciate your vedio on SEO . It does not explain something which is unique in its way . Its so simple .

You probably wanted informations about how to achieve good ranking in Google, or how to get lots of visitors from search engines.

But our SEO tutorial is different: we show the most important Drupal modules and settings which can affect your performance in search engines. So it is mainly technical and Drupal related.

"Its so simple"

Yes, be happy that it is simple, because Drupal is search engine friendly, so you don't need a lot of work.

can't wait to see the next series course after the number 1. i'm a newbie of both drupal and seo, your work is very useful and helpful to me. thanks!

I have tried to view your videos in FF2 and IE7 on two computers (XP and Vista). On both computers, in FF it brought up a blank white page with a warning about editing your robots.txt. On the Vista box, it didn't work in IE either. Finally, on the XP box using IE7 the video came up and is running now, but the XP box is a laptop without any speakers attached (plus, I generally don't have access to the laptop in question).

Thanks for great videos!

Hi Greg,

Thanks for the videos and the very detailed information - we are using Drupal ourselves on a testing basis trying to figure out whether to go for Joomla or Drupal as our main recommendation for SEO minded clients - your video was really useful in sharing some technical insights - especially on taxonomies...

Thanks for that!

Thank god, you're like the light! :D I've just tinkered with Drupal and it is a bit daunting to manage its SEO capabilities. Checking out your videos straightaway. :)

Jasa

Hi Greg, it's me again.

Watched your screencast - no.3? this morning, it it was great. I'll look forward to checking out path-auto more fully later today.

Just to let you know, and I'm not sure why this is, but the supplied URL for the screen cast, produces a blank screen in Firefox, as it does in Safari on my WinXP box. I think both of these have access to flash player v9.

The URL loads the screencast in IE7 OK though.

Interesting - I'll have to have the site admin look into that.

Thanks for the feedback and the problem report.

Hi Greg, thanks for your SEO No.2 screencast, and thanks for being honest and keeping the difficulties (and bleeps) in, I think it will help those that may come across similar issues.

I'm new to Drupal (I'm 3 weeks old now), and have found the learning curve steep, but I making progress. Your screencasts help to make things, that little bit easier.

Keep up the bleeping good work!
Brian Dickson

Yes, to this day I still get frustrated on a regular basis. But - heh - I've edited that out the cussing like three times now! Oh well. I wonder what's going on there...

Many of the best learning experiences are the difficulties. What do you do when you get to a hard point? For me, it's generally 1) step back for a minute 2) check the log files 3) re-read the instructions 4) search for the error message 5) search the issue queue 6) all else fails - submit an issue. But yes, definitely roadblocks are a standard part of every day.

When I heard the swearing I laughed out loud. Hilarious! Keep up the good work.

Hi Greg,
for me I find no.3 is almost always on my list, as I'm usually too anxious to dive in without reading the f*ing manual first. But once I've done that and still have issues, I go to the Drupal the forum's.

Brian

Hi Greg,

These tutorials are brilliant! I can only re-iterate the praise others have given.

Regarding the struggle you had with "page_title" and the mod to a theme's template.php file, I think the issue causing you problems was that the code:

if (module_exists('page_title')) {
$vars['head_title'] = page_title_page_get_title();
}

needed to be put in the "page" hook area. It looked to me as though you'd pasted the code at the same level of the $vars = array() declaration.

I just tried it out and on my site and it seems to work fine.

HTH.

Cheers,

Richard

Yep - there are two (or more) ways that this module can be integrated and the template.php one is probably the best in general but for my situation the page.tpl.php was faster/easier to get working and will work for 90% of the Drupal users out there.

Thanks for the tips!

My Drupal articles

Hi,
I think your video must be a nice resource for learning about drupal SEO.
I have worked a little on drupal SEO for a website. But I have faced many problems while doing that. I have solved some of them but some of the rest seem to me quite impossible. so I badly feel a good tutorial alike your one.
But the Bandwidth in our country is too poor to watch this video through net. It would better for me if you kindly give me the access so that I can download these tutorials first.
I must provide you my feedback & send you related questions. I am waiting for a positive response from you.
Thanks.

HI,

actually providing another downloadable format (for example .mov) is hard work... It would take about 5 hours to encode and upload the videos.

But of course you can download the FLV version, please search for an FLV downloader tool on Google. Sorry, but this is all I can do for you now, if I had time I will provide downloadable formats as well.

But as I said, you can easily download the FLV versions. (Or just pause the video and wait for downloading, then restart and watch.)

Thanks for your reply.
I will try with FLV downloader soon.
Thakns again.

Just watched video 5 and I must say I have been using all of the modules so far.
What I can admit to is watching how someone else uses certain features or techniques or even an off-the-cuff comment makes your ears stand up and you say 'Wow, I never thought of that before'

Those are great moments and I can't thank you enough Greg for taking the time and effort to put together the series so far. (Is there more than 5 or was that the final?)

The biggest revelation for me was the MetaTag (nodewords) module. I'd been using it but didn't tweak to the use of a description and keywords areas inside setting up taxonomy items - that was incredible. Turn on the MetaTag Block and see for yourself where some pages have been forgotten about - most cool.

Again, absolutely top shelf video series, Greg [High Five]

Thanks for the great video.
I just saw part 3 and I like your explanations that is easy to understand and also made in just a few minutes.

Thanks for the videos, Greg! I've just finished the 3rd SEO video you sent me, and being a Drupal newbie, I must say that I learned a lot from you! Thanks for teaching me--

(1) How to make URL forms like http://example.com or http://www.example.com both do the same thing by editing the .htaccess file;
(2) Prevent a search engine spider from accessing parts of my site that I don't want to reveal to the world by editing the robots.txt file;
(3) Create paths that display according to how I want it to be worded by using the Path Redirect and Global Redirect modules;
(4) Customize the titles of my pages (very important in SEO) through the Page Title module;
(5) Create interesting links at the bottom of my posts through the Related Links module (I've been wondering for a long time how this was done... thank you so much!);
(6) Automatically generate SE-friendly paths without having to worry about it through the Pathauto module!

I can't thank you enough! After watching the videos, I looked for a "Donate" button in your site, but didn't find any... maybe that would be a good idea to include here. :)

PS. I hope you could also make a video on how to do a multi-site Drupal installation using a single codebase (preferably, using XAMPP on Windows XP). Doing this have been mostly a hair-pulling experience for me even with all the help from the documentations in drupal.org, and I've yet to succeed in achieving it! (And lastly, the layout of your site is broken in IE 6... but I guess that doesn't matter anyway. :p) Thanks again Greg!

Thanks, we are glad you liked the videos.

Well, no donate button yet :) But you can link to us instead, thanks!

Nice videos, thanks!
I just wondering why they are available only through this email method?

They worth to mention at drupal.hu like the earlier videos!

We want to create interaction, and this email method is the best for this. Because we can notify you easily about the new videos if you subscribe.

Your courses are great evaluating detail information of seo. Drupal community is going to glow up

Hey Greggles!

Great work.

I like the video quality and content. Performance with Amazon S3 too is good in comparison to YouTube, YahooVideos etc.

Keep up the good work!!

Good Luck

I've always used Pathauto and other seo modules of Drupal. But it never occurred to me that I can do more great things with them. Amazing!

I must say, every episode gets ever so yummy.

Thanks and keep up the good work Greg!

Like I said at #drupal, I don't like them... I treasure them!

Excellent videos you are proving great job

Hey Greggles,

I don't mean to rain on your parade - far from it. I am just a little skeptical about your SEO course when your blog's PR is 0. People say PR doesn't matter but when looking for SEO advice, it's one of the big points I look for. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

Anyway, thanks for the hard work, I'm sure there is some gold in the videos that may convert me from WP to Drupal.

Rob

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the feedback - I don't mind a little rain ;)

As Bence responded, I'll just add a little more.

First, PageRank is only one of many hundreds of factors that Drupal considers when ranking a page. Also, while Google is constantly recalculating PageRank for internal purposes, the publicly available PageRank data every few months so while the site may have PRZero, it still ranks quite well for a variety of phrases (I just did search for [Drupal SEO Video] and this page is #1).

If you only listen to SEO experts with PR0 I think you are going to miss a lot of good advice. A better measure would be checking a few searches that they should be ranking for and see how they do.

--
My Drupal articles

And just for completeness...after a google toolbar data refresh, the site currently has a "PageRank" of 5 which is generally considered to be quite good.

It seems to be on the right track ;)

Regards,
Greg

My Drupal articles

Google periodically updates the page rank of all the sites on the internet.

Since we started in November, it is impossible to have a page rank other than 0 right now.

But our SEO videos isn't about how to get high page rank. It is another thing. We showed technical configuration in Drupal only.

You have to do link building day and night, and you have to create unique and rich content. But the fundamental is the proper technical configuration, and this is what you can learn from our videos.

Hello,

I have an SEO question regarding Drupal. I am using CCK to create taxonomies such as city and county.

I am also using fields to add some other data, but I hate the user input form for the fields so I want to stick with using taxonomies.

When I crate a node using several taxonomies, I notice for each taxonomy there is a separate node created. I can think I can make the page structure that I want to use using views, but as far as the "leftover" pages that get created, I don't want the duplicate content there. Any recommendations?

Hi,

I'm not sure I understand this question, but I'll do my best.

Taxonomies should really be used when you have more than one article in a particular topic. This way your taxonomy listing pages at taxonomy/term/ID will have multiple articles on them and will not be "duplicate content".

You can also limit the duplicate content by limiting the information that is included in the teaser.

If that doesn't help, can you provide link examples of the two situations?

Thanks!

Ohhh brother !
:D

I know that the portion of the video for configuring robots.txt was a little quick in this video and I wasn't really able to dive into the complete details about it.

There is more discussion about this and a patch for the core robots.txt file in the Drupal.org issue queue.
