The Pingback module

This tutorial covers the Pingback module for Drupal.

This is a great module, it is worth installing! If you managed to install the module on your own website, please pingback this page for testing! Creating a pingback is really easy, now I'm creating one to this site:

I only mentioned the above website in this post, and the Pingback module did the hard work, it's simple.

the pingback module is another great acheivement
its nice to work with

I decided to add trackbacks to my site and all I've gotten is spam since implementing it. Supposedly trackack will integrate Akismet at some point. But in the meantime, everyday when I check the list of trackbacks in moderation every single one is worthless. It's too time consuming deleting pages of them so I plan to get rid of trackbacks. I hope the ping module doesn't also lead to the same thing.

Can anyone comment on the level of spam?

We use it since January 18th, and we did not get any spam. You don't need to use the Captcha module for pingback. How it works: one can send you a pingback only if he/she linked to your article, under a valid domain name. And I think that the module won't allow too much pingbacks from the same domain (for more details, ask the maintainer on drupal.org).

So let's say that a spammer wants to send to your site 800 pingbacks. Then this spammer needs 800 valid domain names! And of course, if you send me a pingback from your localhost, it won't work.

Hey thanks so much for making these great screencasts, keep 'em coming! I would never have guessed what the Pingback module was, let alone how it worked with out without watching your screencast.
I can't wait for the Drupal Miracle to come out. Please keep us posted on dates and costs!

I've tried for a long time to make use of Trackbacks and never really gotten the results (hardly any at all) that I wanted. Pingback, on the first try worked... there is a nice little comment at the blog I linked to as soon as cron ran. As far as I'm concerned, a great looking module.

Now, for your site... thanks so much for the video. I'm normally not a fan of "video" stuff, but that was helpful and saved me fumbling through the setup of the format filter!

Thanks!
Bruce
