Would you like to learn Drupal 6 as quickly as possible? You have already learned the basics but you would like to advance further? Or you’d rather learn the new features of Drupal 6? Then this announcement is especially for you.
I am issuing my tutorial video on Drupal 6 in March April 2008, whose title is Drupal Miracle: Step by Step Drupal 6 Tutorial Videos. This will include over 10 hours of video!
The Drupal Association will recieve a 20% of commission for each copy sold. As a result, these videos will not only increase the number of Drupal developers, but also provide financial support to the Drupal Association. That is a double advantage!
The target audience of the Drupal Miracle are those Drupal developers who are on beginner-intermediate level. “Intermediate” developers are those who have already acquired the basics and would like to improve their knowledge further, to build more complex sites. However, I also would like complete beginners to be able to learn from the videos. Therefore, I am definitely creating the teaching material in a way that can aid complete beginners.
Structure of the Videos
I am going to work on one Drupal based website during the whole training to provide a real life example. The videos will demonstrate how you can construct a complex website with the aid of Drupal, which is for “real” usage. I am going to discuss in detail the most important modules like Views, CCK, Organic Groups, Panels and many other useful modules.
One of the main parts of the instructional material is going to be the demonstration of the above modules through real tasks and how to getting lots of modules to work together. Two other highly valuable pieces will be theming the site - taking an existing design and implementing it as a Drupal theme - and the basics of module development.
The videos can be watched online with a browser through the member area. There are several advantages of these online Flash videos:
- You can immediately access the videos from everywhere in the world, you do not have to wait for delivery
- There are no delivery costs
- You get future updates of the videos free of charge (e.g. correction of faults, expansions)
Why is the teaching video the best means of education? The answer is: you can learn the given teaching material quickly and easily as you see each operation with your own eyes. If needed, you can stop, rewind and play again any of the videos whenever you would like to. If you are a visual type (as most of the people are) you cannot find a better teaching method.
Until the videos are ready, it is worth checking the blog for the emerging free of charge Drupal 6 videos. Subscribe to the RSS feed so you won't miss the videos!
You may also want to watch some of the previous videos that I've made including the SEO Course. The Drupal SEO Course is more than 1 hour video about how you can quickly and easily make your Drupal site search engine friendly, or what those faults are which cause your site to perform badly in the search engines. Views and CCK are release candidates now. So you got to be able to finish The Step by Step videos mow. When do you plan to release?
http://drupal.org/node/277856
I just saw on drupal.org that there is a new video out. Maybe you could join the forces!
Anyway, a great idea for the new Drupal users!
Keep up the good work!
Joep
How much is the purchase price?
Hi,
I as well am looking for a good comprehensive on drupal. I;ve been see alot about it recenlty, and am looking for a good tutorial system that will help working with it. Nice that you are also donating parts of the proceeds to the association.
Hope you can get things worked out soon.
Mike
I keep checking back here to find the release date fot the Drupal Miracle. Hopefully it will be released soon. I have already made several new websites but I have several more to do and I would be real interested in Drupal Miracle.
Dang this looks real neat bro, i have been hearing a lot about drupal, so time to take a deep look on it....nice cover design by the way.
Im knew to drupal so this video series would be perfect for me. Any idea of when it might be coming out?
MasteringDrupal.com wins the Drupal 'Vaporware of the Month' award. In addition to the SEO video that doesn't actually mail a link, the 'Drupal Miracle' series of videos seems to be missing in action. Since mid-February. That's four months. I know Will our intrepid video mongers be able to pull a rabbit out of the hat? Greggles - I know you're still around because I've seen your excellent Views 2 video. But we need a response here. Can you help us out?
If we released the videos now you'd only get half of a product - the power of Drupal lies in contributed modules. Many of the great contributed modules are not quite ready for 6.x yet. So...we wait and try to help modules get ready and stable for 6.x. If you look at my tracker you'll see a bunch of issues related to 6.x compatibility. There's a reason for that ;)

My Drupal articles
greggles, Bence,
Thanks for your replies. I've been toying with the modules for 6. There are definitely issues of module compatibility still. I can see how that would impact your videos. Apologies for my obnoxiousness! I look forward to a stable module set and an excellent set of videos.
You are right, I will publish an update about the videos. We need an additional 1 month to put together videos, sorry for delay.
The May release date was just my estimation. The problem is this: in video we can show only stable modules. But the key modules for Drupal 6 aren't stable yet, but they are getting close! If we were writing a book, we could write about beta modules, but we record videos.
By the way, Drupal 6 has little market share, so you haven't missed anything. I mean, you have still lots of time to learn Drupal 6: http://blamcast.net/articles/drupal-version-statistics
You should find the links to the SEO episodes in our emails. If you don't find them, please contact us.
Did this ever happen? I can't seem to find where to buy these. Could someone point me in the right direction?
Please hurry up and get this published. I'm working on a couple of Drupal projects and could do with all the help I can get.
However, I'm still a learner and the learning curve is particularly steep.
"We are working on the videos, I will post an update on the work progress soon!", when?
How much will it cost ?
Are they available in different languages ?
Where will they be distributed ?
Any news on when you will publish these tutorials? We're desperate for them: )
Views is in beta3 and CCK is in beta, so now you should be able to finish Drupal miracle. Any new time frame?
I'd be interested in hearing the price of this too.
Hi
Is this tutorial still going to be released? Any further news?
Getting eager to learn as much as possible about Drupal so that I can start ontributing back to the Drupal community.
I have some projects that I want to begin once this is released.
Thanks for your patience! I suggest you to take a look at the Drupal Handbook, you can get started with Drupal 6. By the time we release the videos you can learn a lot from the Handbook!
We are working on the videos, I will post an update on the work progress soon!
Still no Drupal Miracle. Will it ever be released? You write that you will release 2 -3 weeks after Views release. Well Views is in beta (beta3) but beta 2 was released about almost 3 weeks ago and is useable. So what are you waiting for? When will you release Drupal Miracle.
It is harder than writing a book, because we have to show the final UI, and if a module does not work, then we cannot record it. But if we were writing a book, we could easily write about a module wich is in beta version.
We need also CCK to be ready. But we recorded several training parts already, don't fear!
Thanks for the hard work. Many will benefit from your vision with videos rather than standard documentation.
I love your work and wish to move from b2evolution to a different solution. My host only allows me to use drupal 6.0. Please release it soon.
Thanks,
Doctorjay
we're now in the month of may. is it already available?
Please, please, I need a Drupal Miracle! I'm completely new to Drupal and have been searching useful tutorials for a newbie like me. Are you close to making Drupal Miracle available? Believe me, I'll say a few prayers to make this miracle some true!
Ive been checking in on this site for the videos for a while now. Is there still a plan to release these videos? Is it possible to do it in a phased approach, so that we can start leaning now?
Hi,
what is the price that you plan to sell these videos for?
So, when can we see the videos mate?? :)
This sounds super, I need it last week!
I eagerly look forward to the release, especially if, as someone above pointed out, it's not too expensive!
Ehm, 10 hours might be a bit long.. I hope the videos will be divided in to many chapters..
Sorry for the delay. We are working on the videos.
But we would like to cover Views and CCK modules, which are not ready yet. This is the reason behind the delay.
We will release Drupal Miracle 2-3 weeks after Views 2 release.
Great thanks, good work!
Any known release date for these videos? Thanks
"I am issuing my tutorial video on Drupal 6 in March 2008" you write. Well it is April and still no news. Will the videos ever be ready? Could you please give us some kind release date estimate?
will these videos ever be ready?
we needed this, thank you so much... thumbs up
cheers mate
You got a very good tutorial.I'm new to drupal and i hope you
can answer my querries.
Can anyone guide me,please.Thanks
I have installed drupal 6.1 on ubuntu server and it's running
fine, I wanted my power user to upload their files to their
specific folder and common users can download those files. Also,
i wanted to do video streaming(no download)youtube style.
How do i start doing these things? What do i need?
Thank you so much!
Jack
Thanks for doing that, will go through it as soon as possible.
Drupal Miracle: The Step by Step. When when when??
sounds great
Is the "Drupal Miracle" video series still scheduled to be released this month?
this kind of real information will help drupal adoption big time.
Hello, good video! I think is the same of the right sidebar: Thank you, I am waiting the second part.
When do you plan to release and at what price? Lullabot.com is also working on video training, so who will be first? I am ready to spend money on who ever release first.
Thanks
Jesper
I agree with the previous writer. When is this thing coming out?
We want to cover the most important modules: Views 2, Panels 2, CCK etc.
But they are not ready at the moment. So we cannot move on until they are ready. However we already recorded a few hours training.
Keep your eyes on our RSS feed for any updates!
Why not release the videos over time? That way, we can take a little more time to learn the stuff well, instead of trying to absorb 10 hours at once. We get started sooner, too.
I agree, release the videos over time. And soon please.
Hi,
It was a good experience to read your interesting post. Right now I am surveying web sites to find good examples both for valuable content, aesthetic webdesign and good site structure for successful search engine optimization (SEO). I am intending to use the resultsof the survey on my site http://seocontest2008.seoserviceconsultant.com/ that I am right now participating with to the international webmaster and search engine optimization contest "Seocontest2008" organized by UK Webmaster World. I hope the experience gained will allow me to publish some worthwile experience about what is successful web design and SEO. Thanks again for the opportunity to contemplate your site and gain some experience from your way to publish your site on the Internet.
It's right now I've upgraded my site http://seocontest2008.seoserviceconsultant.com/ to the latest version 6.1 of Drupal and I am starting the fine tuning.
Your post is of great help.
Fantastic job man. Keep up the good work.
Its so much easier to have someone show you the process! That's fantastic!
I guess I should have known that tutorials for Drupal existed. I installed it on a website once through my host but had such problems setting it up that I gave up on it. Thanks for bringing such a product to notice.
Please tell when it is supposed to be available for download?
I really wanna use Drupal Miracle to make several things clear for me... :)
Is there any help pages or site for installing?
Çelik Kapı
Thanks Greg and Bence!
So does the video training series already has a price tag? And how much would the membership cost?
And do you have a sort-of "affiliate-program" for this? I know that Greg is a good teacher, and very knowledgeable with Drupal, so I'd be really proud to promote this training series on my sites.
Also, I believe it would help if you guys could provide a sort-of "Table of Contents" for the videos, so that potential buyers would know what they'd get for their money. Lynda.com and TotalTraining.com provides great examples of how this is done, including other ways to effectively market instructional videos.
Looking forward for the Drupal Miracle! Thanks again Greg!
I can only thank you for providing us Drupal new-comers with such detailed and relevant information. I can't wait to know Drupal 6 inside out! Thanks for this opertunity. Who knows, maybe one day I will be doing the same for Drupal 8 - The flash version ;D (yep Flash is my fet and I would like to fully integrate it with drupal in such a way that you can administer everything within a flash (search engine friendly) CMS environment. It would be even more interesting to investigate presenting a 3D semantic web using Flash/Flex, AJAX, Papervision 3D and Drupal doing the core work!
Until then... I think I'll just watch you're videos and contemplate on contributing Drupal once I have el Knowledge!
Cheers Greggles!
Hello I tried to post this yesterday after watching the "What's new with Drupal 6" video, but got an error that you exceeded your bandwidth.
*******
Thanks for tutorials, I have many questions about making Drupal sites do the things I have learned in the StompingNet Stomping The Search Engine Courses.
For instance:
1. In order to push PR through a site, it is best practice to have more than 1 template where you control internal linking structure with rel="nofollow" tags. So how does one do this with a Drupal Site? For instance, a index page for site is tier 1, links to category pages (tier 2) but other pages like "contact us" and some external links are rel-nofollow. Tier 2 pages link to detailed tier 3 pages, but rel-nofollow to index. And Tier 3 page link back to index page, but rel=nofollow to tier 2. This is just one possible scenario of course.
2. How can you have better control over the title tags for a page? Having them match the title of node often is not exactly what you want.
Look forward to the future lessons.
Have a look at page_title.module (v2).
As far as the nofollow linking is concerned, this is something that you'd have to control manually, really. Using robots.txt to restrict SEs from contact pages etc is simple enough. Internal linking from within nodes is somewhat more time consuming, however. You would have to implement all your nodes manually using full or partial html filtering, so WYWISYG editing and other similar modules (Textile, etc) would be out of the window.
However, if someone were to construct a filter system that could analyse links and their destination by some settings in a module, I think a few people would be quite happy about it...
So far Drupal 6 is a tease to me. No views, category templates, and several other mods that are crucial to what I want to do. I don't know if I would need this video (as I have spent so many hours learning and using Drupal 5X) but what I watched before I knew how to use Drupal was beneficial. I wouldn't jump the gun on Drupal 6 as of yet. there is still so much that needs to be done.
Did you see the Views 2 Teaser in the newsletter group on g.d.o? (you need to be a member of the group, as mentioned in the views group?
Are you also aware there was a Call For Help For Views 2 In Drupal 6 back in November, three months ago?
I learned how to use Drupal in January, and I know WordPress and concepts of SEO fairly well. I spent nearly 60 hours in January getting up to speed with Drupal, and hit a lot of dead ends. I am at a level where I can do a lot, but I am not a coder so I can't help anyone with that. I did watch a video about views from this site I believe and it is what got me on the road to creating Drupal sites. The jury is still out for me with Drupal, because there are always bugs. Wordpress seems to have less but you can't do as much with it. If Drupal 6 is what I am hoping it is eventually, I will be happy.
That was a long winded way of saying I haven't seen any of those things you mentioned. SO if I sign up for the group I can get in on the Alpha testing of views? I might be interested if I can find the time. I can definitely make programs crash and find the problems...
Please Tell me how you started
i am finding it very difficult
how to customize page
Views 6.x-2.0 Alpha 2 Released!
You don't have to join anything to see what is going on with views. Feel free to download Views 2, but please note the warning at the top of the page.
The only reason you'd need to join the newsletter group is because you would want to see the teaser article on Views 2 and how awesome it is going to be.
If you're willing to find time to make programs crash and file bug reports (and it doesn't just have to be on Drupal Core or Views (1 or 2)) then the Drupal community would love to have you! Some links to use as jumping off points:
Best of luck to you!
What kind of quality will the videos be? Will the quality be worth the money?
I'm really new to Drupal (zero experience), will these video be a good starting point for me or are there others that I need to watch first (and what are they)? Help in this direction is much appreciated, I would like to learn Drupal and start a project with it. Thanks -- Carmelo C Bonilla Jr, Hawaii USA
Great idea! I will support the project if the price is reasonable and the training is of high quility.
When do you plan to release Drupal Miracle?
Great idea,
I'll be one of the first few in line!
M.
Great idea! Videos is much better than written documentation. If the price is reasonable, you would find many customers. However, isn't there a better way than using a proprietary solution like Flash?!
You will be able to download the videos in Quicktime format. Then you can use VLC player, which is cross-platform and free.
